Community Centre
On the 11th July1921 , the Koala Provisional School was opened. In 1925 the name was changed to Koala State School, It wasnt untill 1946 that the school was officially named Mount Coolon State School.
The school closed from 1950 untill 1961. It remains closed today.
Police Station
Koala police station opened in 1925. In 1931 the name changed from Koala to Mt Coolon.
Between 1925 and 1967 when the station closed there were 18 officers stationed at Mt Coolon.
Barclay's Battery
James Barclay pegged leases in the area in 1913 and constructed a 5 head battery on Police Creek.
This chimney 23 meters in height was constructed at his Police Creek battery using 200,000 locally made bricks.
In 1912, the yield from Barclay's battery was 1707 ounces of gold.
In 1932, Mt Coolon had the highest gold production in Queensland. By 1941 most of the leases had been abandoned.
The Mt Coolon Hotel was origionaly constructed as a residence for James Barclay around 1920. The presigious residence was surrounded by verandahs with a pay office at the southern end.
In the 1930's the house was divided into two seperate units. The verandahs were enclosed and converted to kitches on the east and west sides. Fireplaces were built and gardens establishes.
The first liquor licence was granted to Mr Dan Daly. In the early days the current bar area contained 3 rooms, a centra bar, a drunks room and a ladies lounge.
